Description: Join local naturalist and Earth educator Hope Corbin for a guided wild food and plant medicine walk at Sassafras Gap Preserve in Highlands, NC. As you explore the landscape, you’ll learn how to identify seasonal edible and medicinal plants using key characteristics and habitat clues, along with tips for safe and responsible foraging.
Hope will share practical ways to prepare wild plants as nourishing foods and herbal medicine, along with insights into their traditional uses and ecological roles. This engaging, hands-on experience is perfect for beginners and nature enthusiasts alike, offering a chance to deepen your connection to the Appalachian landscape.
What to bring: Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, weather appropriate clothing, anything else needed to be outside for a few hours, rain or shine.
Walk Level: Easy meander, with grassy and rocky terrain, including uneven ground and some elevation changes
