Where: Nodding Trillium Garden at Pitillo Family Nature Preserve (due to limited parking we will carpool from the main parking lot of Jackson County Greenway)
Join HCLT naturalists Jessica Blackburn and Topher Stephens to explore the ephemeral wildflowers of The Pitillo Family Nature Preserve and Nodding Trillium Garden near Cullowhee, NC. Learn about the fascinating biology and important ecological function of these beautiful early blooming flowers. Possible blooming flowers include Trilliums, Dutchman’s Breeches, Bloodroot, Phlox, Hexastylis, Oconee Bells, and Virginia Bluebells.
Hike: Less than 1 mile round trip with significant hills and uneven terrain
What to Bring: Water, comfortable walking shoes, a rain jacket and curiosity! Optional: hand lens and wildflower field guide
